The dark ones are apparently made from clay he dug up himself on the Izu Peninsula, where he lives.
In contrast to talking to an artist about the drive or meaning behind pictures, with good ceramics, you hold them in your hands and appreciate them. I suppose there are words to describe them, but for now, I'll just say I liked many of the things at the exhibition!
